Why Choose an Old Town Kayak?

The Old Town Kayaks were first made in the 1940's in the town of Old Town. Old Town is located on the Penobscot River in the northeast of Maine. The company which is now known as Johnson Outdoors Inc is a very large company that not only do Old Town Kayaks but also do Necky Kayaks, Ocean Kayaks and many other kayaks too. The whole company was originally started off in 1898 by a man by the name A.E. Wickett. He made canoes initially that were a big hit, so he turned his company into a corporate company by the name of Old Town Canoes Co. in 1903.

In 1974 The company was bought by Sam Johnson who has contributed to the company to make it what it is today. To give you an idea of the size of this company, in 2003 Old Town made it's millionth boat. How is that for size!

Kayaks are much more popular than canoes are in this day and age as more and more people are venturing out on the water with family and friends. Wether you are out for an adventure to investigate the open water or are out fishing, the kayak is the one item that you will want to take with you.

The Old Town Kayak has a large loyal following of boat owners who love the comfort of the cockpit and the strength of the sturdy construction. Stability on the water is a must if you are taking the family out so hence the loyalty of this model of kayak.

A bit of advice would be if your interested in going for an Old Town Kayak but not sure on investing the amount of money that they cost, then a good option is if you are close enough and the time is right, to go visit the Old Town Canoe company in Old Town. In the spring they have a sale about April time. All kinds of boats that may have a blemish no matter how small go on a huge sale.

This event for Old Town Kayaks has not been made a big fuss of, but you can pick yourself a great deal just because of a scratch, you just have to find out when exactly the event is and how your going to bring your new kayak home. Buying your first kayak can be good fun especially when you have the experts there for advice.
